How Do I Join In On the Sprint?
Joining in is easy:
- Log onto irc.binrev.net using an IRC client such as Kopete, xChat, irssi, and so on
- Join the channel #media
- Say hi to notKlaatu. Keep in mind that he might be looking at another window or he may have gone for a cup of coffee, so be patient for a response. Perhaps it will be a good time to go get yourself a cup of coffee, as you may find you'll probably need it.
- notKlaatu and you can decide what kind of media you would like to hunt down. notKlaatu has an extensive list of targeted sites, so if you just want any assignment, that's just fine.
- Go and download as much of the online assets as you can.
- Place the assets in a directory using the following syntax: type.site.name
- type will be the type of asset your are downloading, like font, brush, texture, soundfont, images, soundfx, loops, and so on.
- site will be the site from which the asset was culled. Place only the part of the url that appears between the "www." and the suffix such as ".com" or ".org" or whatever. Therefore, www.hammersound.net would be simply "hammersound"
- name might be arbitrary or it may be something that the site uses to denote a collection of assets. A sound loop site might classify a group of assets as "guitar loops", in which case you will use "guitarLoops", or a site might group a number of brush collections as "Feather brushes" so you would use "featherBrushes" and so on.
- Zip the directory that you have just created and upload to the ftp site that notKlaatu will provide in the irc channel.
- Repeat as often as you like.
